On the first day of Indonesia Millennial Summit 2020 on 17 January 2020, we got the honor to have the presence of Nadiem Makarim, Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. With “Education 4.0: Building Human Resources for the Future” as the subtheme, there were 3 points that Nadiem delivered for millennials, the holders of Indonesia’s future:

Be diligent and committed
Nadiem said, "Reformation can be implemented, but it will take at least 10-15 years─it will not be achieved within just 5 years." Therefore, without perseverance and genuine commitment, it would be impossible for us to be able to achieve the goals and dreams we wanted the most.

Understand that collaboration is fundamental
"The educational reformation which I call 'Merdeka Belajar' is not only done by the government. People, as well as both non-private and private companies─all, must participate," he said. Understanding the system that soon would be implemented in order to actualize the shared goals was exactly the one thing we should soon do. We needed to compromise, support, and collaborate with each other.

Create an environment that supports individual qualities
Nadiem stated, "Education is full of human complexity. It cannot be comprehended simply with the same approach. One thing that I myself have considered to be critically true: there are those ‘best schools’ which actually are originated by non-formal schools." In fact, in any working realm, a lot of non-formal knowledge that we could apply. The knowledge included self-development, communicating with others, patience, and others. Not only academic intelligence but things that made us humane were also more often needed on a daily basis of life.
